Aura polarity: fact or fiction?
The concept of seeing an aura is a time-worn debate in the polarity of science fact or spiritual fiction. Perhaps a Grounded Relating Yes-AND! approach can help? Participants at a local festival this weekend can decide for themselves thanks to Avillion.org’s Aura Photography equipment which is reported to capture a person’s aura on film.
According to the online Merriam-Webster dictionary, an aura is generally defined in these ways:
- A subtle sensory stimulus (as an aroma)
- A distinctive atmosphere surrounding a given source (the place had an aura of mystery)
- A luminous radiation
- A subjective sensation (as of lights) experience before an attack of some disorders (as epilepsy or a migraine)
- An energy field that is held to emanate from a living being
From a spiritual perspective, the definition used for an aura is the last one: “an energy field that is held to emanate from a living being.” Living beings, by definition would include trees, plants, pets and other wildlife. Nikola Tesla noticed that the human body actually “glowed” around the turn of the century, but techniques to photograph the images were not available until 1939 when a Kirlian couple in Russian figured it out (source data).
Seeing golden orbs: eye problem or spiritual experience?
It is not uncommon to hear stories of people seeing a yellow glow or halo around the head of nearby people, nor is it uncommon to see gold stars, blobs or orbs of light, when certain conditions are present. Haven’t we all on ocassion seen a gold orb or two? Are those gold spots and gold flickering lights an aura? According to an About.com article such golden lights might be less of an aura and actually nothing more fancy than an eye under too much pressure. Their simple medical explanation states:
‘Seeing stars’ is a common visual complaint, but it is usually a normal and harmless occurrence. If you close your eyes and rub them, you will probably see spots and flashes of light. These images you see are called ‘phosphenes,’ an entoptic phenomenon characterized by the experience of seeing light without having light actually enter the eye.”
Another more informative video from TEDTalks explains that the spots, or floaters, you see in your eye are reflections of light on the retina caused by tissue—blood cells protein or just tissues—your tissue, loosened and floating around in the eye.
The aura jury is still out
The subject of aura photography and seeing an aura is quite popular on the internet. In 2011 even CNN wrote an article about aura viewing, aura photography and chakra tuning in Sedona. For an in-depth yogic discussion of what an aura is and how it functions in the human form see this Yoga Magazine article, which begins the discussion by stating:
“The aura is an emanation or radiation of life force from the koshas. The aura can be seen only by the yogi who has inner yogic sight or clairvoyant vision. Each sheath radiates its own particular aura with a particular rate of vibration. “
There are even video tutorials instructing individuals how to see an aura with their own eyes. And there are sites that go into great detail about the science of Kirlian photography, as well as scientific explanations detailing how an aura photo might be faked.
Aura Photography at Homecoming 2015 this weekend
At the Homecoming Festival 2015 this weekend, Avillion will offer a unique union of science, spirituality and technology with the Aura Photograph. And festival participants can see, and decide for themselves, if an aura is scientific fact or spiritual fiction. How does it work? According to the Avillion website:
“May the reality experienced by the [Aura P]hotograph inspire a relationship with the energy self to the energy of all life. This can lead to balance and harmony, which in itself stimulates the realization that all life forms are related by the energy of light. Avillion offers Aura Photograpy as an educational service to inspire and promote the sense of “energy awareness,” and to encourage application of this awareness into daily life.”
The Aura Photography process will be available (for a fee) to participants at the Homecoming Festival 2015. The Center of the One Heart, along with it’s co-sponsors will again offer their annual Homecoming Festival event on the grounds of Swannanoa Palace, last residence of cosmic spirituality couple Walter and Lao Russell.
Visiting the 1920s palace at its mountain location property alone makes the trip to Afton Mountain in Virginia worthwhile. When you add in the aura photograph, the other vendors and speaker line-up focused on the Homecoming Festival event’s theme of “The Electrifying Power of Male-Female Balance”….well, it all adds up to be a highly spiritual and grounded time.
See the Grounded Relating self-discovery events calendar for complete details.
