Finding joy

Finding joy in the unlikeliest of places

Finding joy is, mostly, a simple matter of looking for it

Today’s Monday Music Challenge is a clear reminder about looking for the joy in your life. If you are not looking for joy, it is less likely you are finding joy! Think about it. If your mind is focused on what has to be done, what hasn’t been done, where the next problem might arise….well, there’s probably little bandwidth for joy, if you are so otherwise directed, right?

Let’s take a look at an oddball friendship between an orangutan and a hound dog. Perhaps you have seen this video or a version of it floating around on Facebook. It is quite the paradigm shifting video. Dogs and orangutans aren’t supposed to be friends. And, yet clearly they are, as this video evidences.  Take a look at Surya and Roscoe on “Bestest Buddies: Orangutan and Hound” as posted by William Tyndale on YouTube :

No one expected this friendship to materialize, much less emerge as a grounded entity that might continue. Never say never! Who knows why Surya and Roscoe are friends? Who really needs to care, other than Roscoe and Surya? Some people might hone in on the potential dangers to Roscoe the dog when Surya gets full grown, and is a much more powerful adult orangutan. That isn’t what is happening now. It might be a valid concern, but not in the NOW, only in future.

Roscoe and Surya’s friendship is obviously so beautiful as it is now already existing. What’s provocative is witnessing our human propensity for borrowing trouble! Projected, future trouble and worry about potential  “what if’s” from a human mind-set would likely choose to end this beautiful friendship.

Suyra and Roscoe know about finding the joy in life

Fortunately Roscoe and Surya aren’t wired for human worry. What can we learn from these sub-human life forms? How to go with the flow? How to enjoy the moment? How to let go and be here now? Yes, Roscoe and Surya’s relationship definitely points a path towards being present in the NOW. And that is what today’s This Monday Music selection wants you to take notice of; enjoy the music, and use the Grounded Relating Monday Music Challenge to stay present to yourself today. Remember, finding joy is a simple matter of looking for joy.
