Collaborating with ego

At home with self: collaborating with ego

Collaborating with ego is the topic for today’s Monday Music. Last week on the Grounded Relating Monday Music Challenge we looked at Seduction by Ego. Collaborating with ego is a softer approach, and for some of you “literalists” out there, this notion might be a stretch. I get that. I also get the old saying “you attract more flies with honey,” and I enjoy efficient production of product, namely personal satiety and growth.

So, why not try collaborating with your ego, that difficult thing in your life that’s always creating drama? Why not find a collaborator for your life-long effort of managing your spiritual growth patterns and personal blind spots? Makes great sense to me.

“It’s a paradigm shift. BE HERE NOW, doesn’t have to be—and probably isn’t nor should it be—about killing, or otherwise removing your ego.”

The song for this week is from the “Rent” soundtrack called “I’ll Cover You” and already, my ego is calming down, because it’s been suggested something is going to cover it. Really, the job of your ego, until now, has been well-served and aimed at keeping you safe, although granted, from a less-evolved, and mostly self-serving, asleep way.

As each individual wakes up in the growth process of maturation, each in their own time and season, the ego is a little bit like the empty nesting Mother. You didn’t throw your Mother away or trash her when you became your own adult, did you?

Stop berating your ego; start collaborating with ego!

Why do that to your ego? Why put all that resistance in your energy field, your dreams, and your potentials? A better way might be to be-friend your good, old trusted friend, Ego, whom you know so well. Accept and know that be-friending this particular life-long trouble-making companion will require work.

You might have to talk down said friend, Mr. or Mrs. Ego, on occasion. And you may have to learn some new skills to bring Mr. or Mrs. Ego along and keep them up-to-speed with the current times, and your own ever-changing personal growth dynamic.

It’s just more compassionate to stop damning your Ego, which until now, was truly only trying to serve you. And now you’ve grown, and you need a new method. Start collaborating with your ego today! It’s a form of surrender to recognize that your Ego is a part of you; and likely for the majority of us, the ego will always will be a part of  us, until we attain Buddha-mind.

Surrender into the practice of self-love and acceptance

It’s a practice to love the parts of yourself you just don’t want to deal with. Don’t set yourself up for internal condemnation; just accept your Ego may flip out again, at any time. And there could be fall out. The point is not preventing the fall-out. The point is in reducing the amount of recovery time needed to bounce back into neutral. That’s collaborating with ego. It’s a paradigm shift. BE HERE NOW, doesn’t have to be—and probably isn’t nor should it be—about killing, or otherwise removing your ego.

So if we can’t kill or remove our egos, why not just befriend them? Welcome the ego; acknowledge its existence; collaborating with ego can be a good thing. Why not? Our Monday Music selection “I’ll Cover You” as posted on YouTube is full of great information. Take a listen:

Be my lover, and I will cover you

I love the lyrics of the whole song which I find encapsulates collaborating with ego, in all it’s many forms, good bad or indifferent. Hearts expire, someone agrees to be a moat for someone’s castle: there are no boundary conditions. The love is unconditional and the payment is easy. Someone’s providing shelter, for kisses in payment. Everybody is loving and covering everybody else. Everyone matters, gets considered, is treated equally.

And bonus! There was a longing for truth to be discovered, and in this new form of loving acceptance, real truth was found…followed by “a thousand sweet kisses.” That sounds like a great relationship. I’d like that to have that kind of relationship with my own ego. If collaborating with ego will give me that, I’ll start working now to stop berating my egoic habits.

See? Music really can inform consciousness states, even if you have to stretch for it a little. Grounded Relating helps you stretch every Monday with the Monday Music Challenge; be sure to tune in next week!

Live In My House I’ll Be Your Shelter
Just Pay Me Back With One Thousand Kisses
Be My Lover – I’ll Cover You

Open Your Door I’ll Be Your Tenant
Don’t Got Much Baggage To Lay At Your Feet
But Sweet Kisses I’ve Got To Spare
I’ll Be There – I’ll Cover You

[CHORUS] I Think They Meant It When They Said You Can’t Buy Love
Now I Know You Can Rent It A New Lease You Are, My Love, On Life – Be My Life

Just Slip Me On I’ll Be Your Blanket
Wherever – Whatever – I’ll Be Your Coat

You’ll Be My King And I’ll Be Your Castle
No You’ll Be My Queen And I’ll Be Your Moat

[CHORUS] I Think They Meant It When They Said You Can’t Buy Love
Now I Know You Can Rent It A New Lease You Are, My Love, On Life – Be My Life

I’ve Longed To Discover Something As True As This Is
So With A Thousand Sweet Kisses
And I’ll Cover You With A Thousand
Sweet Kisses I’ll Cover You

When You’re Worn Out And Tired
When Your Heart Has Expired
If You’re Cold, You’re Lonely
You’ve Got One, Nickel Only
With A Thousand Sweet Kisses
I’ll Cover You

With A Thousand Sweet Kisses
I’ll Cover You
Oh Lover I’ll Cover You
Oh Lover I’ll Cover You
